The John Howard Society of Brandon is a non-profit organization who accepts responsibility for understanding the risk factors and root causes of crime as well as advocacy for those that are involved with the Criminal Justice Systems by providing trauma informed services and supports.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to support healing by providing a safe, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and empowering environment.  We will facilitate successful reintegration into society, fostering personal growth, accountability, and well-being.  We are committed to helping individuals on their journey towards self-sufficiency, resilience, and community connections, while addressing the unique challenges faced by people involved in the Justice Systems.

 

Goals:

1.    To provide onsite, culturally sensitive and trauma informed support, guidance, and supervision which will empower individuals to making lasting changes to their lives by addressing risk factors that may reduce recidivism including homelessness, substance use disorders, mental health, and employment concerns.

2.     Advocating and working collaboratively to bridge the gaps with community, businesses, including local justice and addictions systems, mental health systems and Indigenous Organizations to strengthen services for continuum of care by providing ongoing support and transitioning to independent living which will contribute to a safer community.

3.     To strengthen the transition for those involved with the criminal justice systems – including people who are incarcerated, to community living by providing supportive transitioning care by offering life skills, connections to community supports and resources to assist individuals for long term independent living in their communities.

4.     To continue to facilitate public awareness, advocacy for those involved with the criminal justice systems and dialogue regarding the root causes of crime with evidence based and trauma informed solutions.

5.     Provide trauma informed care and two eye seeing approaches to programming, case management, security practices by all staff persons.
