Financial Officer

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Financial Officer (FO) will mainly be responsible for the financial administration, protection of assets and risk management of the municipal operations. Efficient and fiscally responsible financial management is key in the operation of municipal business. The Finance Officer shall respect the confidential nature of all information received and processed.

Job Description

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Oversees the Municipality’s financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, taxation systems, assessment rolls, general ledger functions, billing, collections, and tax sales processes.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements, reconciliations, trial balances, and other financial reports in compliance with The Municipal Act and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors municipal budgets, expenditures, investments, capital projects, and grant reporting to support sound financial management, accountability, and long-term planning.
  • Oversees daily financial administration, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll administration, tax billing and collection, asset management, and municipal insurance functions.
  • Coordinates the year-end audit process with external auditors and ensures accurate GST reporting, payroll remittances, employee reporting requirements, and other legislative filings.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of annual operating and capital budgets and provides financial guidance, analysis, and policy recommendations to the CAO and Council.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Post secondary education in finance or a related field
  • Designation as a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is considered an asset
  • Willingness to pursue professional designations
  • Experience in municipal finance or similar leadership roles
  • Strong knowledge of computerized accounting systems and financial reporting
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
