Part-Time, Term (Dec 9, 2024, to May 9/25)

Brandon, MB – North Hill Campus

Competition #157-23/24

Salary: $63,431 to $97,078 annually ($33.65 to $51.50 hourly)

(Educational Supplement: Masters $1.52/hour; PhD $3.03/hour)

Join our dynamic team at Assiniboine Community College and shape the future of horticultural education. We’re seeking a passionate and innovative instructor to teach courses; nursery and ornamental science, horticultural science, and the horticultural industry/the food industry at our North Hill campus.

 

Be Passionate and Taking Initiative with these Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop course materials for nursery management, plant propagation, and ornamental plant care.
  • Hands-on Training: Lead practical sessions covering seed sowing, cutting propagation, and transplanting techniques.
  • Knowledge of morphology, physiology, and taxonomy of plants.
  • Industry Integration: Connect students with industry standards and best practices in nursery operations and ornamental horticulture.
  • Research and Experimentation: Guide students in conducting experiments and research projects exploring horticultural science concepts.
  • Market Analysis: Explore market trends and supply chain management in the horticultural industry.
  • Business Skills: Develop students’ entrepreneurial and business planning abilities for horticultural enterprises.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Educate students on regulatory requirements governing horticultural operations.
  • Networking: Facilitate networking opportunities for students with industry professionals through guest lectures and possibly industry visits.

Being able to deliver results by having:

  • Related degree in horticulture or a closely related field, with industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engage with diverse student populations.
  • Evidence of post-secondary teaching experience, including curriculum development and knowledge or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) would be an asset.
  • Prepare and maintain all course-related records including evaluation, attendance records, and submit information as required.
  • Identify, prepare, and organize course materials and learning resources for course delivery.
  • Instruct students in a classroom or field training situation and provide academic assistance during consultation hours.
  • Modify and/or develop course objectives, course outlines, curricula and evaluation procedures and instruments with the aid and use of software platforms, artificial intelligence, and technology.
