Civil Foreman – Heavy Civil & Underground Utilities

Role Description
Cross Country Field Services is seeking a full-time, on-site Civil Foreman based in Brandon, MB to lead field operations on civil construction and underground utility projects.
The Civil Foreman will be responsible for supervising crews, coordinating equipment and materials, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently, and maintaining project productivity and quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong field experience in earthworks, excavation, grading, and underground utility installations.
The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, operators, labourers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to specification.
Projects May Include
Mass earthworks and grading
Underground utility installations
Civil infrastructure development
Site servicing and excavation
Industrial and commercial construction support
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily field operations and construction crews
Lead and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites
Coordinate equipment, manpower, materials, and subcontractors
Read and interpret construction drawings, grade stakes, and specifications
Ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule
Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with project specifications
Conduct site inspections and identify potential issues proactively
Communicate effectively with Project Managers, clients, inspectors, and field personnel
Complete daily reporting, hazard assessments, and project documentation
Assist with planning daily and weekly construction activities
Troubleshoot field issues and provide practical solutions
Ensure proper care and operation of company equipment and tools
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience
Grade 12 diploma, G.E.D., C.A.E.C., or Mature High School Diploma
Minimum five (5) years of experience in civil construction or underground utility installation
Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or foreman experience preferred
Valid and subsisting Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License
Strong understanding of excavation, grading, trenching, and underground utility construction
Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and specifications
Strong knowledge of safe work practices and construction site safety requirements
Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the infrastructure, power, oil & gas, or heavy civil construction sectors
Experience operating heavy equipment considered an asset
Experience with GPS grade control and machine control systems is considered an asset
Experience using construction technology, GPS systems, digital drawings, tablets, and electronic field reporting systems considered an asset
Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE), First Aid, H2S Alive, Ground Disturbance, Safety Supervisor Training, or related certifications considered assets
Practical experience with mass earthworks, utility installation, and site development projects highly valued
