Job Summary

Help Drive Operational Excellence Through Financial Leadership

Job Description

Are you a CPA or experienced accounting professional who enjoys more than simply producing financial statements?

Do you thrive on improving processes, partnering with operational leaders, mentoring staff, and helping an organization make smarter business decisions?

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Controller to join our client’s leadership team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing strong technical accounting expertise with strategic thinking and continuous improvement. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the organization while working closely with operations to improve reporting, streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and support informed decision-making.

This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization that values teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

You will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the organization while providing leadership and guidance to members of the finance team.

You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting while supporting operational leaders with meaningful financial information that helps improve business performance.

As an important member of the leadership team, you will work collaboratively across departments to identify opportunities for process improvement, improve reporting efficiency, strengthen financial controls, and support the organization’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities will include leading the organization’s monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while ensuring all accounting records are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • You will prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger transactions while overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, operating expenses, payroll submissions, GST filings, credit card reconciliations, invoicing, and other core accounting functions.
  • Working closely with department managers, you will assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, monthly budget-to-actual reporting, financial analysis, and operational reporting that supports informed business decisions.
  • You will coordinate annual external audits, prepare supporting working papers, and ensure financial records are maintained in an organized, accurate, and auditable manner.
  • A key focus of this position will be identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, streamline business processes, enhance internal controls, reduce risk, and improve reporting efficiency throughout the organization.
  • You will provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and oversight to members of the finance team while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented work environment.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with a genuine interest in improving how a business operates.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • CPA designation (or be nearing completion of the CPA program).
  • Strong accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting & financial reporting.
  • Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, payroll, GST, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and helping operational teams become more efficient through better financial information and business processes.

Why Join Our Team?

This is an opportunity to become a valued member of a collaborative leadership team where your expertise will directly influence the organization’s financial performance and operational success.

We offer:

  • Competitive annual salary based on qualifications and experience.
  • Comprehensive group benefits package.
  • Employer RRSP matching program.
  • Ongoing professional development and support for continuing education.
  • The opportunity to work closely with operational leaders and contribute to strategic business improvements.
  • A supportive, team-oriented culture that values initiative, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.
  • A stable, growing organization where your ideas and leadership can make a lasting impact.

If you’re looking for a role where you can combine financial leadership with operational partnership and continuous improvement, we’d welcome the opportunity to hear from you.
