Role Description

 

Cross Country Field Services is seeking applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator from motivated individuals to join our Construction Team. The successful candidates will support the day-to-day operations of civil construction, earthworks, underground utility, and infrastructure projects with scopes of work that vary in complexity.

This role requires a safety-focused and dependable individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality work while operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment in a fast-paced field environment.

  • Mass earthworks and grading
  • Underground utility installations
  • Site servicing and excavation
  • Civil infrastructure development
  • Industrial and commercial construction support

 

What You’ll Get to Do as a Heavy Equipment Operator

 

  • Safely operate a variety of heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, packers, tractors, and related machinery
  • Work alongside field crews on earthwork and underground utility construction projects throughout Manitoba
  • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling operations
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship while maintaining productivity and efficiency
  • Ensure safety standards and company procedures are continuously followed
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks, FLHAs, equipment inspections, observations, and required field documentation
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report repair issues or hazards immediately
  • Clean, fuel, lubricate, and maintain equipment
  • Transport materials and equipment to and from jobsites, including loading and unloading
  • Secure loads using proper load securement procedures to ensure safe transportation
  • Operate GPS grade control and machine control systems where applicable
  • Work safely around existing utilities and infrastructure
  • Support crews with general construction and maintenance activities as required

 

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years of experience in civil construction, earthworks, underground utility installation, or related construction environments preferred
  • Valid and subsisting Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and construction site safety requirements
  • Ability to operate construction equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to work effectively in physically demanding outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and grow within the company
  • Reliable, dependable, and team-oriented attitude

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience in the infrastructure, power, oil & gas, or heavy civil construction sectors
  • Experience operating excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, and related construction equipment considered an asset
  • Experience with underground utility installation and mass earthworks projects highly valued
  • Experience operating GPS grade control and machine control systems considered an asset
  • Experience with utility locates and working around existing utilities considered an asset
  • Ground Disturbance Level II, First Aid, WHMIS, H2S Alive, Safety Supervisor Training, or related certifications considered assets
  • Experience using construction technology, digital drawings, tablets, and electronic field reporting systems considered an asset
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license considered an asset
